  • Leah: I went to Camp Abilities for the first time in 2007.
  • Logan: In what capacity have you been involved with Camp Abilities Brockport?
  • Leah: I was a volunteer this past year and in doing so I earned 3 credits towards my masters’ degree.
  • Logan: What got you started, or introduced you, to Camp Abilities Brockport?
  • Leah: I learned about this opportunity during my time at grad school. My advisor encouraged us to participate in this learning opportunity.
  • Logan: Tell about something that, for you, has made Camp Abilities Brockport a lifelong memory?
  • Leah: I will never forget my first experience watching an athlete who was deaf and visually impaired participate in a game of beep baseball. The experience brought tears of joy to my eyes and I was moved beyond belief watching this.
  • Logan: What few things do you enjoy about working with Camp Abilities Brockport?
  • Leah: I enjoyed learning more about adapted sports and in general being in an environment supportive to each and every athlete regardless of ability. Most of all however it was a joy to see the participants grow as athletes and to engage in an environment supportive to all.
  • Logan: Do you have other dreams or ambitions?
  • Leah: I am currently working as an adapted physical education teacher in the Detroit Public School District. I would like to continue to teach APE but I would eventually like to be involved with curriculum designing and implementing in both physical education and APE.
  • Logan: Do you have any hobbies or things you enjoy doing?
  • Leah: During the summer I am the head youth coach at the Ann Arbor Rowing Club. I enjoy working out myself and lead an active lifestyle.
  • Logan: Do you play musical instruments – if so what? If you play more than one, which one would you say is your favorite?
  • Leah: I played piano in high school but have not played since then!
  • Logan: Do you like to read? If so, what's your favorite book?

  • Logan: Do you have a favorite color?
  • Leah: I love the color teal and I also like the color pink
  • Logan: What is your favorite food?
  • Leah: I love Chicken cordon blue (chicken with ham and Swiss cheese)
  • Logan: What do you wish or expect to see in your future?
  • Leah: I hope to return to Canada one day and share my knowledge with the public school system there.
  • Logan: What do you hope to see for the future of Camp Abilities Brockport?
  • Leah: I hope that Camp Abilities continues to grow and expand the number of sites across the United States where athletes can participate in.
  • Logan: At what point will you see yourself having to go a separate way?
  • Leah: I am not sure of my commitments for the upcoming summers, my involvement with the Ann Arbor Rowing Club keep me busy during the summer, it also gives me a break from the regular teaching schedule!
  • Logan: What's next for you?
  • Leah: I hope to stay in Ann Arbor for the next few years with my husband. I enjoy working for the Detroit Public School system for now and feel very grateful I have a job teaching adapted physical education.
